Fascinated by human biology, sports, and healthy living, I studied a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) majoring in Human biology, Psychology and Microbiology. These crucial years of study grounded my belief in the benefit of activity and movement, as well as trying to deeply understand Homo sapiens and the human-condition.
I graduated with my Bachelors of Science from the University of Cape Town, where I was lucky enough to be lectured by some of the best academics in their field, many from UCT’s Medical Campus with strong affiliation to the Newlands Sports Science Centre; one of whom I will never forget was Tim Noakes.

I also started climbing on UCT’s brilliant bouldering gym wall, as I was a keen 1st Team rugby player at school, but I knew my days in this contact sport were over. I was an avid member at the UCT Mountain and Ski Society, eventually I was on the committee members board leading newer student climbers on ‘Easy Friday’ outings to Silvermine Nature Reserve, one of the most stunning and accessible parts of the Cape Peninsula mountain range.
